On the Oregon Trail- YEE HAW!

We're finishing up our journey on the Oregon Trail. We've learned all about Thomas Jefferson and the Louisiana Purchase, the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Westward Expansion, pioneer life, the Gold Rush, and the Transcontinental Railroad.  Here we are as pioneer boys and girls walking beside our wagons, headed west!

Savannah's wagon says "TRAIL HEADS WEST"

Jackson, our new classmate, joined us after we had already finished making our wagons.  Thankfully, his new friend Ben offered him a ride!

Conor's wagon is "MADE IN AMERICA!"

Kaitlynn was the first to arrive!

***Shout out to Lynne, who made these giant flowers for our windows.  Don't they look great?!?

St. Patrick's Day Photo Booth!!!

Just for fun, here we are cheesing for the camera in our Irish finest!

Math on the iPads

The Hurd School recently purchased 10 iPads, and E5 kids just LOVE seeing their teachers walk into the room with an armful of them!  We are using Splash Math and Mad Math to review concepts, play games, and practice our math facts.  There are SO many fantastic apps out there and our students are fast becoming iPad pros!

Getting Ready for MCAS

We've been hard at work preparing for the MCAS in a few weeks.  We looked at the grading rubric that the MCAS graders use to score essays.  Then, we compared several essays from past students, looking for the writing traits that the MCAS graders look for, and graded the essays.  Here we are highlighting, debating, and discussing the essays as a class.
